Join us for a twilight tour of Oak Ridge Cemetery led by local historian Kathleen O'Neal on August 10th at 7:00 pm. We will learn more about the history of Oak Ridge and the people who were interred there. This project is a collaboration between Historic Macon Foundation and Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc.
Oak Ridge Cemetery, established in 1840, was historically the section of Rose Hill Cemetery that was reserved for African Americans. Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc. has spent many work days clearing out weeds, brush, and invasive plants to uncover some of the many graves at Oak Ridge. We are eager to share our findings with the community!
This hour-long guided walking tour will take us across paved roads, but participants will have the opportunity to veer off the path onto uneven footing to see recently uncovered graves up close. Please wear sensible shoes and be mindful of any mobility issues before you choose to step off the path.
Tickets are $10 and all proceeds will be used to further the preservation and restoration of Rose Hill and Oak Ridge Cemeteries.
